Bet you think this is about iraq ^^
But no it's Irish.

A few years back a truce was drawn up between the IRA and the British Army, The general Uk government. The deal was this, (Basically), "Drop all your guns, or die".

So the ira are now officially decommisioned, few days later the hundreds and hundreds of british soldiers flew out of the country to go fight a pointless war. The government even decided it was a good idea to disband NI's national army, (Royal Irish Regiment - home battalion), leaving us in an undefended country with an under staffed police force and a part time military presence. (Territorial army).

Now the Ira have been murdering people at will, they even shot a couple of soldiers getting a pizza on their barracks front gate.

The defence the Uk have is this, 'We can fly the soldiers back to their camps in an hour'. all good and well you might think. but they've destroyed all the camps, so they'd have to rebuild and find a location and defend the construction work.

I personally think that taking out most of the troops was a bad idea but disbanding our national army was just plain stupid. There are now 2/3 permanent army bases in all of NI. There was over 30 a few years ago.

Whats your views on all this? More info can be found on Wiki. Look up 'the troubles' or 'the irish peace process' . Or you can try, 'People in power are morons, my left forstbitten toe twice removed has more sense'.

It's pretty terrible, we should have left a shadow of our forces in ireland just to back up the fuzz, especially after the decomisioning of the irish regiments. I'm also kinda baffled that we took the IRA's word...BECAUSE THEY HAVE BEEN SO TRUSTWORTHY SO FAR. It's a terrorist group, and now we have a few more splinter cells to deal with, great.

We needed to sort our own problems before blindly following the yanks into the gulf again.

I also dont understand why they haven't even attempted to decommision the UDA, UVF, UFF etc etc.
All paramilitary organisations, granted back in the day the UVf had a purpose and even served in one of the wars. But now it's just out there to cause trouble.

The police force is mostly corrupt but the areas that have a loyal police force are unstaffed.

My views on the whole 'uniting ireland' are one sided. I think it's a stupid idea, ireland couldn't support the North AND south, considering it can barely support the south as it is. Yet being under british control isn't exactly fun, if we could look after ourselves i think NI would be a decent country on it's own. But alas were the size of a 30cm ruler and cant do anything but drink and farm. xD
