Religion is a hot topic for discussion right now, and we keep stinking up the political threads with our debates. I have made this thread for our continuing sensible discussion of the topics at hand.

They teach Evolution as a fact in public skwls in America yet they dont talk about Religion at all except to ridicule it. Some Athiests are even trying to get our government to remove the part in the pledge where it says "One Nation under God..."

Don't you have Religious Education were they teach you about all the worlds religions? Surely relgion belongs in these classes and not in the science class with evolution.

I can understand the people wanting to remove "one nation under god" because it's not true anymore. As I mentioned before, the world has billions of different cultural beliefes and to blanket everyone under the same oath is ignorant and possibly disturbing to other people.

ur right its not one nation under God any more...but it should be. basicaly what I'm getting at is if they are going to teach you about Evolution it should be alright for them to pray at the begining and end of skwl or hang the ten commandments on the wall etc, etc,

I'll bet you anything that parents would strongly object to a jewish teacher even mentioning to his students that he was jewish, let alone posting a big ol' star of david on the wall. He would probably be run out of town. You must either represent all religions in the classroom or none whatsoever, if you care at all about classroom equity.

It shouldn't be one nation under god, otherwise theres no diversity and diversity is what humans thrive on. You can't force religion on people, others have tried, remember that Hitler dude? yeah, he did that. Didn't work out so well for him. You would basicly be removing peoples freedom of choice, and that is taking away someones rights.

There is nothing wrong with people praying in schools, you can pray on the toilet if you like, But faith shouldn't be mandatory, ever.

@RichiCrypt

Hitler did not try to force Religion on anyone. A little googling would have told you that.

@Amph
I cant say I would really care if He hung a star of David on the wall. however the ten Commandments are followed, or atleast they make a pretence of following, in every protistant church and also catholacism.

Except that science is progressive and constantly getting expanded on and we learn new things about it all the time, Where as religion is as it always has been. Kids learn Religion at church, and science in the classroom. That's the true meaning of separation of church and state. Don't get me wrong though, I'm catholic, but I believe that Religion in school is not going to help anyone.

What's so important to change it?

If you don't like it, don't say it. Duh...

If you don't like other people saying it, say hello to the real world where the Catholic religion takes place. Suck it up and make everyone's lives easier, including your own.

Sheesh...

Not sure if this was directed at me or not. But just because I'm catholic doesn't mean I believe everyone should. Everyones entitled to their own beliefs and I've never tried to convert someone.

Anyway I don't like this topic because it just gives everyone another excuse to hate on each other.

I was speaking to anyone who thought the pledge should be changed. Not really anyone in particular.

i personally would like christianity to be taught in schools BUT this is America, a land of many beliefs, and schools have the right to teach what they want so i pretty much agree with rich
