Up here in Canada, there is little major scuffles over religion. Christianity is regularly accepted. Our national anthem has 2 lines about god: True patriot love in all thy sons command and God keep our land glorious and free!. Also, God Save the Queen is regularly sung at any ceremony. I believe that Canada is becoming more and more accepting of religions and personally i think it is great. I am Lutheran, so i like that the word is being spread.

Well I'm from Canada, but I have nothing to say because I have no beliefs in absolutely anything pertaining to religion.

I think that if Canada really were more accepting of other religions, our national anthem would not mention God, nor would the Lord's Prayer be chanted in public schools, etcetera; reason for that being that people belonging to non-mainstream religions have to literally leave the room when O Canada is sung in their presence. We must push for religious neutrality in order to equally represent all religions, otherwise we're just exclusively pushing the mainstream Christian agenda rather than for all religious agendas.

Amphy makes a good point and i do agree. While yes i am a devoted Christian i don't believe that we need to (i use this term alot sorry for the repetitiveness) shove religion down people's throats...yes we were given a mission to spread the word but if a person doesn't want to believe then why force them? it's a lost cause. As for the USA's national anthem i don't think it should be changed do to the fact that our nation was founded on christianity..or rather on the basis of protestantism (protesting the king). besides a true Christian would realize that it is ultimately God who does the work...we just plant the seed and move on...that's what we were told to do...

I think if God wanted the word to be spread he would let it spread without people terrifying others into believing in him. After all if you use fear to make people bend to your will your no better than the IRA.

bar,y brings up a good point. that's why i try to stay away from talking about the fire and brimstone while staying close to the love of God factor, although both are equally important. Come now, if there really was a place that was perfect that you could go to, wouldn't you choose that over a burning pit?

If choosing the perfect place contradicted my personal views. I would much rather burn then be something I'm not.

While I agree with most of what you said there is another side to the coin. In public schools they shove evolution down kids throats and kids who don't believe in it have to walk out. Both should be taught as theories, there should be no "This is the way it is so suck it up and get over it" attitude. Atleast not on that subject :)

Except that there is little Science and/or History in creationism. It's a theory with no scientific evidence, except for what creationists claim is a lack of scientific evidence supporting evolution. BUT, I *do* think it should at least be mentioned as an sidenote to evolution for the religious kids.

tl;dr.

Have your own views, please, that's what religious freed-- no, freedom itself is all about. but don't let it get in the way of my education, and the way modern society works. As a Catholic, I don't mind religious discussion in the least, but when people become flaming idiots and go gallivanting around and pushing their own f***ing agenda down people's throats (be they Christian, Jewish, Atheist, or other), it makes me sick.

A government should have no authority over religion, and if people wish to have a more religious-inclined learning experience or lifestyle, send your kid to a religious school (God knows there are plenty of them) and go to your temple (be it a church or a synagogue) more often, just keep it out of local affairs, and out of our minds. Society already has enough to worry about. We don't need extremists to muck up what most countries have been trying (and very close to succeeding) to do right.

Public education, and religious tolerance.

/Rant.

Indeed.

You guys are so right evolution is infallible and anything contradicting it is fallacy. There are many theories to how this world and us came to being. Unfortunately none of us were there when it happened so we have to take the present to figure out what happened in the past. now evolution is a theory so as it is just a theory it should be presented as one and not fact as it is in the government dictated public fail school system funded by yours truly. So because it is just a theory the other big theories should be mentioned as well. Given facts the students should then be able to decipher their own conclusion, but instead of this critical thinking students are given a picture of several monkeys and then a man with some context given with the conclusion the origins of man. I find no evidence supporting the evolution of any animals. But back to the topic i believe creationism is a theory that should be presented in equality to evolution. Dont let them tell you what to believe for there are many others out there who have a PHD that believe in creationism, just come to your own conclusion with an open mind. My conclusion was creationism.
