Most of you are like me, you like Skype because it relieves boredom and helps you hang out with distant friends. My laptop is old and pretty bad anyway. I only use it for small internet searches and SKYPE!

Well, out of nowhere the internet on my laptop just died. I did all I knew what to do at the time (which was not much at all).

Well, its been dead since mid-August and its about time I should fix the daggum thing!

Here is the only "error report" I am getting: (Its from AOL whenever I try and connect)

Attempt 1) [,Broadband]
The computer could not get an internet connection. (Error: AC-3001 0x8410018)

I'm not a tech guy at all, but I know this is just a standard error and I doubt ya'll can truely diagnose and tell me what to do based off of that, but who knows. Obviously not me!

I really want to chat on Skype again! HELP ME!

Thank yall so much!

I just did a google search on that error code, and thisis what I got.

The computer could not get an internet connection
Error codes: AC 3001, AC 3100, AC 3101

The network connection did not respond when trying to connect to the AOL service. To fix the problem, try one or all of the following:

You may wish to print or save a copy of these instructions as this page may not remain visible as you go through the suggested steps.

Restart your computer

Restarting your computer will refresh the files and folders in Windows and may help to solve the problem you are having.

1. Shut down your computer in the usual way, eg by clicking Start, then Shut Down.
2. Wait 30 seconds.
3. Turn your computer back on and try to connect again.

Restart the connection device

Turn off the modem or modem router by unplugging the power cable. After 10 seconds, restart it by plugging it back in. Wait for the lights to come back on the modem or modem router (this can take up to 20 seconds).
Check that the network card is installed correctly

To check that the network card is installed correctly, take the following steps:

1. Click Start and select Control Panel.
Windows 98SE, Me and 2000 users: Click Start, then select Settings and Control Panel.
2. Double-click the System icon.
Windows Vista users: Double-click Device Manager and then skip to step 5.
3. In the System Properties window, select the Hardware tab.
4. Click Device Manager.
5. Expand Network Adapters by clicking the plus sign next to it.
6. Check that the network card is installed. Also check that is not disabled and does not have any conflicts:
-- If you see a red cross next to the network card, this means that the adapter is disabled.
-- If you see a see a yellow exclamation mark this means the adapter has a conflict.
Check the physical connections

Connection problems might be caused by something as simple as a loose connection to the modem, modem router or a filter. Check the connections are correctly set up as follows:

1. Unplug every device from your broadband-enabled phone line. Ensure to check every telephone point.
2. Locate the master phone socket and plug the filter directly into this socket.
3. Plug the DSL cable (the yellow line cable) into the DSL side of the filter.
4. Plug the other side of the yellow cable into your DSL modem or modem router.
5. Connect the DSL modem or modem router to the computer via the USB or ethernet cable provided.

Notes
-- For the best performance, we recommend that you always use your master socket and the DSL cable provided. Remove any extension cables that are present.
-- The cable connecting the DSL filter to the modem or modem router should be no longer than 10 metres.
-- Any other telephony devices connected to the phone line, such as a burglar alarm, or Sky digital must also be connected via a DSL filter.
-- Ensure that no more than four telephone sockets, including the master socket, are in use.
Check your firewall software

Thanks S18!

It might take a while from the look of this, but my hope is that I can get it to work. Sadly I don't know a whole lot about Computers so I might need to read up a bit on the terminology....

What is happening on your laptop? i.e its not picking up the router or is it picking up the router and just not getting a connection? Has it been working before?

Because if its not picking up the wireless router then it sounds like your wireless network card in your computer(im assuming its a PC) has gone But you can buy new wireless network cards i had to for my main computer as that wasn't working but my laptop was fine so we just went and bought a netgar wireless card off amazon and it just goes in 1 of the slots at the back of the pc.
