i dont see whats so wrong about pirating things. its just music... people switch off cd's all the time and no one ever gets mad at that. so isnt it all the same. and as for those whinney song writters that fuss over this all i got to tell them is so what if you arent getting another million to add to your stash of money that you most likely wont spend...
You just assume well known bands are rich mate, honestly, the music industry isn't like that. It takes a good few albums and a few tours (Of at least 20 well packed gigs) before a band is wealthy enough to be able support musicians families.
An example here is:
Rise against, they had a few albums, eps, did tours and have a stack of merch. They have only recently been able to support themselves through music. Shortly before the sufferer and the witness they announced that they were making enough.
Metallica became rich so quickly because when they were first getting big, the internet was a big evil monster that children couldn't use. So they were getting album sales as well as the merch, gigs etc.
It takes years and years and years before a band can become wealthy enough to be classified as "rich".
Also, people bash on musicians for being rich. Well tbh i'd be quite happy to be making a few thousand each time i went to work. Wouldn't you? People settle for jobs as office workers etc to pay the bills. Why not do something you actually like on the side? Maybe then people wouldn't be so bitter about musicians.
(I'd also like to add here that recording, producing and promoting songs isn't cheap, over here the cheapest amature studio is £125 per song recorded, then theres another £100 for mixing then another £50 for mastering. £275 for one song isn't cheap for unknown bands. Then big bands spend Thousands recording songs. Believe me, alot of the money made, is spent.)
Also Amph, people find the music through sites like last.fm or word of mouth on the streets. People don't just go on the piratebay and look up random names hoping that some bands will appear, of course pirating helps once the words been spread to boost the band whilst also bringing them down.
