With the violet hue of the evening sky giving way to the rich and foreign amber of the morning sun, Mathew awoke within a cold discomfort beneath the confines of the ruined sky-rise. Without having had much to eat over the last few days, he buckled over for a minute in nauseous pain as his stomach growled sharply up against him. Shiver amongst the cold air that blanketed his body, he solemnly stumbled out into the sunlight in desperate need to warm himself.

With all of the numerous towers ascending in ruin all around him, Mathew was in little luck to find the warmth he sought, forcing him to continue wandering throughout the many shadows of the world before him, nestled beneath the ethereal mists of the other words and the all-encompassing barrier to be seen over the horizon.

Occasionally, a spirit passed him by, but they kept their distance. He was taken now, so they held no interest in him. Besides, had he the mind, he would've easily won a fight with them in their frail, shapeless forms. The nameless spirit inside him would grant him more than enough power to dispel them from their ethereal bonds to their world, leaving them to fade from total existence. Such was the price for their aggression he wasn't surprised they had turned docile. That is, so long as a free host lay outside their reach.

Mathew shuddered beneath his frosty veil, finding no relief within the dawning light that he could gather. Aside from being utterly hungry, he felt sick and weak under the fog of another sleepless night. In his dreams, he feels the everlasting presence of the spirit within him, speaking in words he doesn't understand and taunting his sanity with its everlasting demeaning. With his family gone before the hands of the spirits and their wretched destruction of their world, he felt even worse knowing that he had been lucky enough to be spared by their wrath thus far. Had he the moment to either extinguish the wars or escape them, he would kill for either chance.

Rounding a corner, he came upon a small clutter of insanes, clawing down upon the corpse of another human being. Driven by their savage human, it was a common appearance to see them feasting upon anything they could find, whether it be fresh or rotting, friend or foe. The image was as disgusting as it was horrifying.

However, as one of the men caught sight of him, they suddenly turned hostile and screamed out in a rabid, feral cry, gaining down the ruined streets towards him. With a moment's time on his side, Mathew knew escaping such swift enemies in his mental state was of no option to him. That, and being driven momentarily by his hateful distaste, he welcomed the chance to release his heart-felt aggression upon them.

Grasping the form of a steel garter that lay gnarled amongst the wreckage, Mathew dew in from his power and pulled the metal sheeting into his skin, casting himself in iron. As his aura took hold over his body, he felt the frost cement itself over his dense outer-layer and, after shaking free his joins of the ice that locked them, he stood fast within the chaos and let them come.

When the first of the insane came to him, he pulled back and released a cranking blow to its jaw, fragmenting it as the man's teeth were shoved up inside his skull, killing him instantly. With another rounding the bend, he delivered a kick to his chest and watched it crumple inwards upon itself. With blood exploding from his mouth, he dropped to the ground as a twitching, morbid feast for the bird, dying within moments of his slow, downing demise.

As another came in to latch himself upon his back, Mathew felt him try and claw down through his iron skinning to no avail. Releasing himself from its hold, he picked up the man by the arm, twirled him around and slammed his back down upon the shattered pavement at his feet. In the wake of the thunderous echo, he heard the poor man's back snap and his body went still. He would bother him no longer.

Finally, he turned back to witness the final three gather before him, but hesitate to close the distance. Obviously, having witnessed their comrades die so swiftly at his hands, they were beginning to finally think for a change and wish to survive for the day's worth to be had. One turned and scampered away then, as the other quickly followed suit.

The last one to remain smiled a gnarled, bloody grin.

"Next time..." it said.”Next time, we'll get you... you stupid brute!"

Enraged by its words, Mathew picked up a large slab of concrete by his feet and threw it down towards the man. Watching as he came to jump over the slab and cling to the building as its side, he could do nothing more as the frail man crawled away from him, ascending the wall like the bug he was. The sight was as pathetic as it was frightful.

Finally, the calm returned to the barren streets and all was still. Releasing his power, Mathew's skin shed into fragments of foil and returned to its normal, whitened colour. Dusting himself off, he came to glance around at the dead all around him. Knowing the stake their bodies were in, it was probably a poor choice to look at them all now as food, but given the choices he had, he was left with little less than anything to do now.

Picking up one of the dead, he walked with it down the streets, now in search of a place where he could properly cook the remnants of his world's failing past.

The screaming coming from the streets below woke Raux just as the sun was dropping under the horizon. "Must be feeding time." he muttered to himself. "Guess I'd better get out of here before they find me. He picked up his cabbie hat and leather coat, and went about jumping between the closely spaces buildings. Parkour had been something Raux loved before the incident. He had no idea how well the skill would serve him in a time like this.

He skipped betwen the building down a block, and came across a fire exit. As he prepared himself to climb down, a voice rang out in his head.

*MY TURN!*

A loud crack threw Raux against a roofside shed, clinging on to his head as if his brain was pushing itself out.

"Oh no you don't!" Raux protested, but it did no good, as he knew it would. He thrashed about violently as the blue electric-like energy surged through his veins. He fell limp for a few moments, then arose, his eyes looking much more intense than before.

*SORRY OLD CHUM, BUT DADDY'S GOTTA FIND SOME FOOD!*

The deeper, sinister voice cackled for a second, then out of his hands shot a light blue blast of energy, which he used to fly over the city.

Animus was thirsty.

A girl stood over the rest of the insane "people" as they had their evening meal. Jenny laughed maniacally as her former friends fed on the flesh of a human being. She had enough control to stop herself from eating the flesh of her fellow man.

Jenny's clothes were covered in blood, her shirt was blue and her pants black. She gently licked off the blood flung at her onto her arms and face.

"It's quite entertaining, isn't it Jenny? Don't you want some of that for yourself?" Miros asked.

"Heh, no. I refuse to touch the flesh of another human being," Jenny replied.

"You aren't human anymore though. You know you want the joyful taste."

Jenny lost control for a few seconds as Miros steered her towards the feeding frenzy.

"N-no, not today," Jenny struggled. After a few moments, she broke away from the trance.

"J-Just leave me alone, M-Miros." Jenny puffed out.

She slowly walked away to find food for herself.

She searched many markets, one after another, only to come to failure.

Jenny started to search the city park for animals. She found fish in the pond. She snatched them up with her hands and ripped the heads off. She ate the wriggling fish raw.

"Are you happy, Miros? You got to taste raw meat?" Jenny queried.

"Yes, yes, but it's not human flesh, my dear," Miros replied.

Jenny laughed a little.

"Why don't we play a little game?" Miros demanded.

"Oh? What did you have in mind?" Jenny asked, intrigued.

"Hmm? Perhaps, we shall start with that wandering fellow over there?"

Jenny smiled and started to stroll over to the man Miros suggested.

Ryder Salo walked the dark streets of the city he lived closed to. Unaware of what's happening on the outside of the city, he wonders if his family are okay. It scares him knowing that leaving the city will be easier said than done since there's insane people roaming the city and people he's never seen like before. It also scares him that he cannot learn what's happening on the outside of the city and what's going on here.

Ryder and his friend from another country slept in a ruined hotel until they could think of a plan. But seeing how dangerous the streets were, he shouldn't even be out there right now. The hotel had a lack of food for them to eat, the water wasn't running so they try having some beer, and the only good bathroom has blood stains on the walls and floor and it smelled of rotting corpses and urine. with the water not working in there either.

Ryder looks at a human corpse and wonders if they would have to commit the one thing they would regret doing. Cannibalism. Ryder tries to avoid the idea but with crappy tasting food left in the hotel, they won't last the rest of this week in that hotel. Ryder also regrets how the only thing they've been drinking was the beer found in the cellar with smashed barrels and the floor soaked in beer and blood. Ryder hates the fact that he's suddenly become an alcoholic since he never did drugs before this supernatural attack. One day, Ryder tried to drink his own urine when his friend wasn't looking but couldn't do it after the first two sips. Ryder was surprised that no one has visited the hotel and he wonders why.

Ryder returns to the hotel after hiking down the block. He walks up the stairs that was covered with pieces of the ceiling above him. The chandelier was smashed in pieces on top of a wooden table on the first floor, but they managed to use its candles to see when it was dark. Ryder walks down the hallway on the second floor going down to room 221 where he and his friend slept.

His friend was Miles Buchanan who also worried what the fate and worries of his family would be also. They lost count on how many days have passed but it felt like a couple of months have passed already that they've been alone making sure both survive. Miles was a good friend because he's always humorous, even during this bad time. But Ryder can see through Miles that his sarcastic humor is his way of hiding his fear. They wished they had weapons to kill off any insane person or monster they walk by so they can escape from this dusty ruin hotel. But the one thing they both regret the idea of doing is killing any human being. Miles predicts the insanity is coming out of human fear but Ryder thinks it's more than that.

Ryder tucks himself in the dusty bed trying to not wake Miles up. Ryder tries to fall asleep but can never sleep with the sounds of war outside the hotel walls.

"NO PLEASE!" a women screamed in fear. "OH GOD GIVE ME MERCY! NO!"

Ryder hears the women scream for mercy until he heard no more screaming. He gets worried that he and Miles won't make it out of this city alive. He falls asleep trying to think of positive things.

He thought of himself and his family being back together again having a nice big dinner. He thought of his first book being published. He thought of Miles finally creating his first feature film. He thought of anything positive, but it didn't help him knowing they couldn't defend themselves against the insanity that is spreading through this ruined city like a virus.

Xander sat in his shelter meditating. He did this a lot these days, it eased the turmoil in his head and it seemed to help relax Gar’ as well.
The shelter was quite spacious, even for Xander. Built into a stand of trees that she had grown for them; a fort in the forest she made to keep them safe from the insane. It had worked too; it was possibly the safest place in the city now, a stark contrast to the decrepid buildings surrounding it, the forest in the park had grown strong with her magic. Once it had held more people, but…
No, he couldn’t think about that.

The brown hair that had suddenly started sprouting on his arm began to fade back to normal.

It was just him now. Well, him and Gar’.

A noise outside woke him from his thoughts. Standing up, he walked softly over to the window and looked out over the rest of the park.
A few people were wandering about. Not unusual for this time of day, but Xander was wary nonetheless. Finally he found the source of the commotion: a girl, in bloodstained clothes, was catching fish from the pond below his tree. She hadn’t noticed him; the fort was too well concealed, but he watched as she ate, slightly disgusted as she ripped their head off, but also intrigued. The fact that she chose to eat the fish suggested to him she was sane enough to avoid eating human flesh when hungry, something he hadn’t seen much of lately. The girl walked off, past some trees and out of view, and he returned to his seat.
The image of food entered his mind through Gar’s thoughts and, looking at the near-empty food crate in the corner, he decided he would have to hunt again tonight.
“Soon, Gar’… Soon.”

In the middle of fallen rubble was a still-standing garage. Inside of it was tools for almost every engineering purpose. Sitting with those tools was Chuck Smith, and his spirit Spur. The small mercury vapor bar light above was barely staying lit as Chuck worked hard on fixing a composite bow. The pulley on the top of the bow was not working. Chuck found this while moving some rubble around near his garage. The pulley would be simple to fix: if he had a pulley. He didn't have a pulley, so he took his small, barely working welder and went to work welding another pulley together.

"Mind giving me a steady hand Spur?" Chuck politely asked his spirit.

The spirit replied by giving Chuck the steady hand he needed to finish the welds. Once the newly made pulley had it's welds cool down, Chuck began assembling it back onto the composite bow. He was just lucky it still had the cable for a bow string. Just as he was tightening the last nut, Chuck heard some banging on his door. He looked out the plexiglass window and saw an Insane outside. Chuck went to the door, and opened it. The door opens to the outside, so he slammed it in the insane's face. The being screamed in pain as Chuck stood over it. He opened his palm to it and shot a bolt of lightning right at the brain. The insane human died with contact to the bolt, as the spirit flew away.

With the insane taken care of, Chuck went back to tightening the last nut. Once he did, he tested the bow, and it just worked. The condition wasn't too great, but it worked well enough to defend someone.

Troy was blank. He had no thoughts, nothing. Instead Gaap did everything for him. Troy was walking down a ruined street when an innocent young girl was stuck under a concrete slab. She was unable to get out, and screamed at Troy for help. Troy walked over to the girl, but instead of offering a hand, Gaap summoned a chunk of hardened earth to come down on her little head, squishing it like a bug. "Troy" let out a laugh as her blood was now forming a nice, shiny red puddle under the slab.

The street was barren. There were no insane people on it, which was weird. Usually there was at least one being on a street for Troy. Well, he killed the only being on the street. The sun was shining down on Troy as he grew tired of the heat. Gaap summoned a small slab of earth as shade for Troy.

It's actually a surprise that Gaap hasn't had Troy killed yet. Maybe it's because Troy was spineless when it came to controlling Gaap. This gave Gaap a shell to use as protection. Troy continued down the street, with a floating chunk of earth above his head.

Flint was sitting bored in a still standing house. The fridge was now empty of food, and only one frozen pizza remained in the freezer, which was now spoiled. The house had no electricity to it. Flint slowly got up out of bed and walked to the kitchen. In the kitchen sat a jar of honey with almost nothing left in it. Flint hated honey, but it was all he had right now. He took a nearly destroyed spoon and ate the rest of the honey, then took a cup of water from the sink. He was surprised the house still had flowing water.

Flint looked outside from the roof of the house and carefully looked at the streets with people running about on them. He had no idea why they were doing that. He only knew some went around killing others.

You see, despite living in a city full of spirits, Flint didn't know what was controlling these people. He isolated himself to the house for all this time, and knew only what he saw. He's never seen any flying around either. Then something weird happened: he saw a spirit flying around: the one Chuck sent free. Flint got scared and went back inside, sealing off the house from whatever it was. He usually didn't care about anything, but those floating shapeless bodies is what he feared the most.

Today would be another boring day for Flint, as he picked up some playing cards and played Solitaire for some time.

"Alright say hello to Aaron for me and stay out of trouble ya hear?" the bartender called out to Crystal as she slowly closed the door behind her to Old Jeremiahs Pub. Old Jeremiah had always been a kind sort and he knew well of Crystals habits to get herself into dangerous situations. He also knew well enough not to question her when she spoke of such adventures.

"That old guy always knows just what to say to make you smile doesn't he?" a deep female voice rang out inside Crystals mind. She had almost forgotten for a moment that Elaine was awake at this time.

"Jeremiahs like an uncle to me Elaine you know that." Crystal slowly walked down the empty streets carrying a small package containing some booze and some cigarettes bound for her room mate and partner Aaron Sage.

"I do not get why you connect yourself to people like him Crystal. It is the same thing with that lazy **** Aaron. People such as they bare no use to you or me. I warn you do not get too close to them you will only wind up hurting yourself." Elaine scoffed lightly at Crystals stupidity. She had never cared for many of the men in Crystals life.

Crystal shook her head. "I have been hearing that same thing for years now Elaine. I trust Jeremiah and Aaron is a good friend of mine. Truth be told there is little we could do without them or have you forgotten how Aaron managed to save our life?" Crystal paused a moment in the center of the street. It was common place now a days for people to talk to themselves in public but nonetheless she felt a little awkward doing so.

Elaine fell silent for a few moments although it was not the conversation that had silenced her. Her senses had picked up on something nearby. It did not take long for Crystal to notice it as well and before Elaine could stop her Crystal was running towards a close alleyway.

"What do you think you are doing get away from my son!" A woman stood in a broken alley way. In front of her standing with a small dagger in hand stood a young boy no less then eight years old. He stood glaring up at three large men approaching him eyes twisted with lust.

"Get out of the way brat and nobody gets hurt." the bulky man in front seemed to be the leader of the trio with muscles the size of small watermelons.

The kid continued to stand defiantly protecting the woman behind him with his little weapon. He looked like an ant in comparison to the hulk of a man in front of him.

"I said move kid. We only want to have a little chat with your mommy here. It wont take long." The man continued to inch forward. The men behind him chuckled a bit as they kept to his side slowly closing in. "Come on be a good little sport and hand over the knife we only want to..."

Suddenly the man fell silent as his eyes slowly rolled back in his head he fell to the ground with a crash. A light amount of blood splattered the pavement as the sounds of bones cracking was heard the moment he hit the ground.

The two thugs behind him stared in amazement at their fallen comrade before turning in surprise. It took a moment for their daze to wear off before they realized what had just happened. Somehow out of nowhere a stranger had appeared and managed to kick their friend in the back of the neck so hard it had knocked him out.

As they stared in wonder at the figure before them they were even more surprised as they realized it had been a woman. An attractive one at that. Suddenly she spoke.

"Just what is going on here?" Crystals soft voice rang out further surprising the thugs and causing them to back up a bit more. The boy behind them also seemed surprised at the sudden appearance of this woman. Although he didnt look especially greatful for her arrival.

For a moment the group stood there in silence. Not one of them seemed to have the capacity to speak at the moment. Crystal continued to stand her eyes lowered her hands on her hips. "Did you not here what I said. I asked you...what exactly is going on here?" Crystal moved further into the alley way revealing the small package she had dropped earlier at the mouth of the alley.

Finally the braver of the two thugs a tan skinned man who looked to have about as much muscle as he had brain stepped forward. "Whats it to you b****? What are you doing kicking around our buddy?" the man stepped forward a bit more but kept his distance not wanting to end up like his friend on the ground.

"You should watch your mouth in the prescence of a lady." Crystal gritted her teeth as she stared beyond the thug who had spoken to her to the man standing behind him. "Perhaps your other friend here can give me a better answer. Perhaps hes too much of a coward to answer a simple question?" It was then that she realized that Elaines words from earlier had begun to rub off on her and she backed off a bit.

Suddenly the kid who had been standing behind watching the scene this whole time ran forward and stabbed one of the thugs in the back with a knife. The thugs eyes widened upon impact as he said a foreign obscenity under his breath before coughing up vital fluid and falling over lifeless.

Crystal stared in horror as the boy stood over the body smiling and then turned to the other thug. "He got what he deserved" a deep voice came from the childs mouth as he looked at Crystal she gasped in horror at the look in his eyes. It was clear this boy was no regular human.

The other thug feeling outnumbered now quickly turned to escape the alley way but was barred quickly from leaving by Crystal. "Oh no youre not going anywhere." she said as she stood in front of him blocking his path.

The boy continued to look down at the fallen thug as Crystal grabbed hold of the final thugs arm and tossed him to the ground cracking a few of his ribs along the way. She glanced down at him as he looked up at her in better terror. Crystals heart beat faster for only a moment as she realized what she had done but remembering the boy she let the thug lie there stunned for a bit while she walked over to the boy.

The boy stared down at the three thugs all of whom lay motionless now. One dead, the other knocked out and the last one paralyzed. "Come here little boy." Crystal called to him motioning him to her side.

The boy didnt flinch but instead looked back directly at Crystal. "Worthless trash. Nothing more then garbage. They dont deserve to live..." the boy continued to speak and although his voice was that of a youth his facial features now resembled that of an older man.

"What are you talking about?" Crystal questioned. Suddenly she felt Elaine tense up inside of her.

"Be careful Crystal." she said quickly. "This boy is not what he appears..." Elaine gritted her teeth inside Crystal her heightened senses had been correct. There was indeed an insane spirit here.

Detuko Polemavre sat staring out of the window past the edge of the curtain. He was a truly unfortunate man. Then again, everyone was. Anyone in the City region would think him the luckiest, but he never thought of the rest of the City. He watched the sun rise over the crumbling skyscrapers, or what was left of them anyway. The building his old office was in, once with a gleaming exterior, looked like the shadow it cast. For a moment, he thought of Adrianna, his late wife. One part insisted that this world was no place for her to live, but the other countered with how much he truly missed her, and would give almost anything to be with her again. A tear rolled down his cheek.

It was Detuko's successful business that allowed him to move into the corner of the city, building his house based on Thomas Jefferson's ancient Monticello. It didn't sit on much land, but was surrounded by a tall brick wall with only a pair of heavy metal gates in it. Solar panels lined the roof, and since the spirits, every curtain was drawn shut. Lights were available, but never used. Damon joked that it was for saving the house energy cells for an emergency, but it was obvious even to the depressed Detuko. The worse thing available would be to attract attention. They were practically zombies out there.

Drake, sitting in a gloomy mood, quietly ate the fruits in front of him. Drake might have been the luckiest man in the city. He had legitimate food, a warm safe place to sleep, and two people that still cared for him. The world was horribly unfair. He had lost his friends, his family members, almost his brother, and anything to stave off his daily boredom.

For the first few years, there was meat and bread scavenged from freezers around (Much by Damon and Dani). On one of Detuko's better days, he led them to a pharmacy, snagging every single medical supplement off the shelves. Now, it was nothing but raw fruits, raw vegetables, and a fiber and calcium supplement. Every day. There were no books to read, no friends to talk to, no broadcasts to watch...the forcefield around the city blocked any incoming radio broadcasts or satellite transmissions. He knew that people outside of the city still lived normal lives. What did he ever do to deserve the apocalypse?

Damon danced his way downstairs, grinning as he always did. He put on his coat, gloves, hat, and well-worn hiking boots. He might be the luckiest person in the city. His spirit is a nice person, although he has not informed Drake or his father of Graham. Graham Ruhe. The spirit that was probably asleep, although Damon wasn't sure if it was necessarily possible.

It occurred to Drake that the room was a little brighter when Damon's sunny disposition walked in. It only deepened his internal shadows. What did he have to smile about? Why does he always look clueless about what is going on? But it wasn't worth being angry. If he didn't have his brother, what would he have left?

Damon shouldered the rifle, a replica of a gun made multiple centuries ago. "I'm heading out to the facility."

Amelia sat beside the campfire, keeping some meat floating above it, cooking it. She could hear some birds chirping in the distance, and the wind blew past the trees, causing them to ruffle slightly. Even though Amelia realized that she was lucky to have a nice spirit, one who would even take care of her a little, she couldn't help but feel sad as she looked over at the dead deer of which she got the meat.

"... Do we really have to kill these animals, Zoey? Isn't there another way?" She 'thought' to Zoey. Only thinking the words would be enough to reach Zoey, so she prefered that over actually saying it aloud.

"Would you rather eat the human corpses in the city?" A female voice spoke to Amelia, again through thoughts. "But can't we eat fruit found around the forest? Or take animals that are already dead?" She thought to Zoey again, she felt sorry for the things. They hadn't done anything wrong, so why would they deserve to get killed?

"We wouldn't be able to find enough fruit, and animals that are already dead could have died from a disease. And in times like this, you don't want to get sick." Zoey replied to Amelia, as Amelia sighed. Zoey was right, but it still didn't feel right.

"... After all this is over, I'm going to be a vegetarian..." Amelia thought, not really to Zoey although she was still able to hear it. "Whatever you want, but we should make sure we'll still be alive by then first... IF this will come to an end, that is." Zoey said, remembering Amelia about the one thing she didn't want to think about. The possibility that they might have to spend the rest of their lives like this.

"Let's just go with that this will be over someday..." Amelia thought to Zoey. "If that's what you want, then do so. Just don't count on it that day will come anytime soon, though. Better make sure we can survive for however long is needed." Zoey thought back to Amelia, and Amelia nodded, although a bit sadly. She just hoped they'd run into someone soon, someone sane. Zoey had been the only one she'd really talked to in weeks, and she was beginning to feel a bit lonely.

-----

Ciara walked on the streets of the city, looking around a bit. She could see some people beating up another person or clawing at him or her, yet ignored this completely. This was a pretty common sight these days, and as they weren't getting in her wat, and she didn't feel the need to join them, she'd leave them be. True, she did need food, but she refused to just eat raw, human flesh like the Insane did, and would do with this person once the person either died or lost conciousness. She knew very well that one could grow sick by eating raw flesh.

Ciara eventually spotted a house which didn't seem too damaged. She went over to it, and tried to open the door, which was locked. She sighed, then just kicked in the door and headed inside, looking around her. It wasn't exactly lit up in the house, one little candle being the only source of light. All the others seemed to have burned up. She then spotted an old man, hiding below a table and holding a knife. The sight reminded her of a kid that hid below it's bed, afraid of monsters.

"Go away! Leave!" The man called, trying to sound sure of himself, yet you could hear fear in his voice pretty easily. Ciara looked at the pathetic sight for a moment, before she thrust her hand forwards, summoning a strong wind which blew the table to the other sight of the room, knocking the man back a few meters. The man then quickly got up, holding his knife in front of him.

"I-I told you to leave!" The man said, shaking more than just a little bit. Ciara just looked at the man for a few moments, before summoning another gust of wind, throwing the man to the other side of the room. The man's head hit the corner of a shelf, then fell to the ground motionlessly, a red liquid drenching his hair then dripping to the ground.

Ciara then turned to the kitchen, and began looking through it. At first, she didn't really see anything out of ordinary, anything that could really be of use. Just a few bent spoons, some rusted knives, bread with multiple green and white spots on it, and some cockroaches crawling over the floor. She then went over to the fridge, and opened it, only to find it empty. She then closed it again, and opened one of the cabinets. Some plates and glasses, covered in dust. Nobody really used these anymore nowadays.

Ciara then closed the cabinet, and opened another. This one had some honey and chocolate bars in it, which she took out. There wasn't much left of the honey, and there were only 2 chocolate bars, but it was better than nothing. She laid the things down on a nearby shelf, making sure it was cockroach-free.

Ciara then turned back to the cabinets, and opened one, finding it empty, then opened the last one, and found a bottle of orange soda, although it was half empty. She took this out as well, and put it on the table, then opened one of the drawers. Some bent spoons, forks with the teeth broken off, and rusted knives. She just took one of the spoons, to eat the honey, put it on the table, then opened the next drawer. Some things one used to cook, like spatula's, although most were rusted. Not really useful.

Ciara then opened the next one, which was filled with some random things. A rusted pair of scissors, some plastic bags, a box of lucifers, and a few unlit candles. She decided to take box of lucifers, as well as the candles. Could come in handy. She then put the items on the table, then went to take another look in the living room, not really seeing anything useful.

Ciara then went over to the stairs, climbed them, and came in a small hallway with 3 doors. She went to take a look behind the nearest door, finding a small bathroom. She tried to see if the water was still flowing, but it wasn't. As expected. She looked around a bit more, then left the bathroom, not really seeing anything useful. She then went to the next door, finding the man's bedroom. She couldn't see much, so opened up the curtains a little bit. The room was a big mess, clothes being all over the place. She opened up one of the dressers, then immediately closing it as it seemed to be stocked with dirty underwear. She certainly didn't need those.

Ciara then went to the third, and last room, finding it to be a small room with some boxes and a desk placed in it. She looked around a little, then opened the drawer in the shelf, as a small grin appeared on her face. There was a sheated knife in it. She took out the knife, then unsheated it. It was smooth, and seemed to be in a pretty good shape compared to most other things in the house. She put the knife in the sheath again, then looked through the boxes. These were mainly filled with junk, and the only slightly useful thing she could find, was a thin belt to attach the knife's sheath to, which she took.

Ciara eventually got up, then went downstairs again, and put the knife on the table as well. She then took the spoon and the honey, sat down at a nearby chair, and ate the little honey there still was. After she did so, she just put the empty honey jar down, leaving the spoon in it, then drank what was left of the orange soda. After doing so, she attached the sheath to the belt, and put it on. She then took the lucifers and the candles, and put them in one of her pockets. She putted the chocolate bars in another. She then left the house, and continued walking down the streets.

Atop on old building; Sophie knelt. Grey eyes searching for a source of food. Ever since the hunting accident; she has increased her hunting spoils by 25%. She was grateful for that. Unlike seemingly everyone else in the City; Sophie was good freinds with the spirit withing herself. Rue had saved her life; and gave her amazing senses for hunting. She was then interupted by the sound of an animal. One that thought it was safe coming out in the night. Well, it just got itself an arrow to the heart.

Sophie smiled. It has a nice pelt and would be good for food for a long while

Moving only at night volke waited for the sun to go down. Having the advantage for fighting at night thats when he preferred to move. Using his cloak to hide him self in shadowy corners in dark alley ways during the day this is how he hid himself. when the sun went down he slowly move the cloak aside thinking to himself "I hope someone comes out tonight"

pulling out one of his daggers volke jumped quickly to the top of the building and found a quick perch. He was hungry and needed to find food. Forgoing the small conveinance store next to him volke jumped from roof top to roof top trying to find some meat. Not really concerned with whether it was human or not because of his very low standing moral code. Luckily he didnt have to eat human flash today. While jumping he saw a small bird flying to its nest. Thinking nothing of it he threw his dagger silently and as deadly as he had practiced his whole life. The bird didnt even have time to squak. Not wanting to make a fire and draw attention he ate the bird raw and stared slowly into the darkness.

The nigt time frightens most people but thatnks to his spirit shadow, volke has a heightened sense of hearing and touch letting him know when anything is going to go down. As he ate the bird and was replenished for the night he fealt that familiar urge again. The urge that always tugged at the very core of his mind. The urge that he did not dread but came to expect and lust for. The urge to kill a human. He knew to keep shadow happy he would have to end someones life giving shadow that adrenaline burst he always seems to seek. Volke didnt care about this though. His knew found power gave him such excitment that he too fealt the same about this killing thing. Tonight was his lucky night.

Off in a small alley volke heard the rustle of garbage bags which he knew was someone trying to find food for the night. SMiling to himself he thought "while i am alive no one should feel safe at night" Using the shadows as cover volke moved in as quietly as a mouse. When he saw the person his heart jumped with glee for not only was the person alive but the person was sane. Nothing gave him more pleasure than hearing the painful screams of a sane person. Calling upon Shadow so he (Shadow) could feel all of the adrenaline he summoned the ethereal chains and launched at the man. Before the man could even move he was caught in the bindings of the chains.

"it is time" volke said for he knew his ritua was about to begin. Volke could almost never leave someone just dead when it came to a one on one moment like this. licking his dagger he slowly moved toward the man enjoying the look of sheer panic he had.

"SOMEBODY HELP ME" screamed the man but volke knew these parts like te back of his hand. no one was going to help him.

"Are you ready to die?" "I know a great way to end all of our suffering" volke shoved his knife into the mans stomach shivering with pleasure as the man screamed in pain. He slowly moved the dagger he had across the mans stomach watching all of his inards fall out onto the pavement. With one final convulsion the man died in the chains. Letting his limp body fall to the floor volke laughed.

"tonight is going to be fun" he thought

Pulling his crossbow out, Xander made his way along the path in the trees. The park was close to the edge of the containment area. Game was more common there, and generally no insane came this close to the border.
He hunted for a few hours and managed to shoot a couple of rabbits, enough to last him the next few days at least, he didn’t need to eat as much as he once did.
Skirting around the open areas of the park he made his way back to the shelter, on the alert for any threat. There was a fresh body on the path, but nothing else. He checked quickly to see if there was anything useful on him, finding only some cigarettes and a small knife. He decided to take them both, you never knew what you could trade with people these days, and continued the rest of the way to the shelter without issue.
Once there, he proceeded with his routine: preparing the rabbits for food, and cleaning his crossbow while he cooked them. One of his crossbow bolts had shattered, he’d have to make some new ones soon…
Always something to do.

Chuck was sitting bored in his garage. He had nothing to work on, other than a generator which loses power very quickly, but he lacked the components to fix it. He noticed the small mercury vapor light overhead was beginning to dim, so Chuck made his way to the back towards the generator. There was a nice spot fried on the outside. Chuck gave the generator a shock, as it went back to full power. It would only stay this was for about 30-45 minutes, though. He really needed to get out and hunt for the stuff to fix it.

Chuck's stomach began to growl. He hasm't had anything to eat in two days. He went into the corner of his garage where the corpse he killed earlier lay. He ripped an arm off of it, and began cooking it over a small fire. That was his meal for the night. He was not ashamed to be a cannibal right now, and Spur didn't mind. The meat would take a while to cook, so Chuck just sat and waited. He would eat soon enough.

Once the meat was ready, Chuck dined in. It tasted bad, but it was better than starving to death. The dried blood had a sour flavor to it. Chuck ate the arm much like a chicken drumstick. It was finally nice for him to eat something decent. The last thing he ate was a random rat running around in his garage.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Troy found his way into the sewers. He figured out they were a safe spot to travel in, so he always smells like sewage dump. The sewers were home to roaches and rats. None of these were too safe to eat, so Troy ignored them. He was really heading to the sewage treatment plant, which he called home.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Flint was about to leave the house and go onto the streets. This was very rare for him. He had a sword, but he dropped it when an insane human with a powerful spirit chased him halfway across the city. Now Flint had a work glove on his right hand, and had a steel rebar on him. He needed a new weapon fast.

The door to the house creaked open ever so slowly as Flint left the home. He locked the door with a key he had, and was on his way to search for food. All the markets were swept clean by now, and most homes had no food left in them. Flint really didn't want to become a cannibal if he could avoid it.

Flint was wandering the city when he found a place to enter the sewers. He ignored this, and went on towards an innocent looking house. It was locked, which indicated there was food there. He looked in the backyard, and found someone growing some potatoes, which were basically hidden underneath some dirt. He snuk over the fence and pulled a few out. There was a sack in the yard that he put them in. As soon as he had enough, some human came running out with a pitchfork. he was charging at Flint.

Flint jumped back, as the pitchfork stabbed the wooden fence. He jumped onto it, and climbed the fence back out. He was running for his house when the human followed through his front door, pitchfork held out. The other man was faster than Flint, so things looked bad. All of a sudden, an insane human came into Flint's way. He sidestepped and dodged the being, as it began to attack his pursuer. The man with the pitchfork won, of course, but Flint was out of his sight by then.

Flint got back home, locked the door tightly, and stored the poatoes in a cabinet to eat later.

Music from the late 20th century suddenly scared Ryder awake. It was dawn. Ryder gets up and notices an old CD player beside his bed.

"Rise and shine Ryder!" Miles said tying his shoes.

"Dude are you insane?" Ryder snapped.

"Come on man," Miles said annoying Ryder for his own entertainment, "you love this song and you know it!"

Miles turns the volume up and points one finger at Ryder as he lips sync to it well moving his body to the beat to annoy him even more. Ryder quickly turns off the CD player and turns the knob of the volume down to zero.

"Are you fricken' insane Miles?" Ryder snapped. "Last thing we need is somebody to know we're in here! We have busted windows incase you haven't noticed!"

"You need to seriously have more fun Ryder," Miles laughed to himself. "This silence of yours is not going to give you the determination to escape this city." Then he sang a little parody song to himself, "Take my lead and I'll set us free."

"Nor is annoying the insane neighbors," Ryder said falling back into the bed.

"Haha," Miles laughed, "see, the humor is still in ya!"

"How did you get a signal anyway?" Ryder asked.

" I didn't," Miles replied. "They had a collection of these ancient technology discs called CDs in the staff room."

Ryder sighed wishing he could go back to sleep.

"Dude, it's a classic!" Miles said.

Ryder and Miles eat up some dry rice and have one bottle of beer.

Ryder got annoyed by Miles either gargling his beer on propose or singing songs to himself.

Ryder and Miles tried seeing if they find some sort of game around the hotel but there was nothing.

"We're going to have to leave this hotel eventually you know," Ryder said.

"I'm aware," Miles replied. "Well what do you suggest? Make some bullets and carrying around guns?"

"I don't know," Ryder said. "To be honest, nothing is making sense of what's going on around here."

"Well we got to do something then keep our ass in this ruined place," Miles said.

Ryder walked next to the waterless fountain in the lobby walking out of the bar.

"I'm going to see if I can find something in the library upstairs," Ryder said.

"Sure thing," Miles said taking another drink of beer.

Ryder walks into the library with books either on the floor or on the shelves. He avoided any contact by the window incase an insane person or something else sees him.

Ryder explores the entire library but finds nothing interesting. The computers won't work since the power was cut for the library's uses. The only outlets they could use were the ones in the kitchen which kept most of the food they've already eaten cold or frozen, and of course their own room where Miles decided to play a prank on him almost risking their lives. Ryder looked at a few books but nothing interested him since this supernatural apocalypse made his reading skills too unfocused.

"Ryder," a voice whispered.

Ryder looks around for the source of the voice. He saw nothing out the windows and looks at the entrance to see if it was Miles.

"Ryder," the voice whispered again with an echo.

"Okay, that's definitely not Miles' voice unless he's a girl," Ryder murmured to himself. "Who's there?"

The female voice murmured, "aisle three."

"Who is this?" Ryder asks.

He waited for a while but the voice never recurred.

"We're definitely leaving this hotel," Ryder said to himself as he slowly looks down aisle three. Ryder walked throughout the pile of books.

"34676," the voice whispered to him again. "Book 34676."

This began to scare Ryder not knowing where the voice was coming from. But he obeys it for the moment and looks for the bar code of 34676. Once he finds it, he takes it off the shelf and blows the dust off of it. It was a book in studying the dead language Latin.

"Study well Ryder," the voice said again. "This shall be your ultimate power."

"Who's there?" Ryder called out again. But it didn't reply back. Instead, he held the book in his hands and walked out of the library with the book in hand.

Damon stepped out of the back door and slid along the inside of the wall to the gate. He glanced out left, right, and once again to both sides. One could never be too careful. Satisfied the street was clear, he swiftly unlocked, stepped out, and locked the gate. Keeping to the edge of the street, he quick-stepped towards his goal: A beaten down, but still partially functioning hydroponics facility. He had once worked a summer there, and quickly made use of it for himself, his dad, his brother, and his sist...

Graham, who wasn't sleeping after all, or perhaps just woke up, took that moment to "speak" up. *Someone, or something's coming. I think*

Of course, when Graham brought something like that up, he was always right. Now that he wasn't distracted by his own thoughts, Damon stepped into a shady crevice and darkened the region. He grinned. Nobody outside would be able to see him there. He remembered a friend who had moved away a year before it all began. "They're outside, on the sunniest day of the year, and walk in to see if they want to buy the house. The first thing they do is complain about how dark it is. Everyone knows that it takes a few minutes for eyes to adjust." Just as the home shoppers couldn't see then, nothing could see him now.

Sure enough, someone came stumbling down the street. It wan't an insane, no, but it did look weird. He was in earshot.
"-out! Get out! Get out get out! My head! My thoughts! Get out!"
No, not insane. He would be shortly. Not everyone could handle a spirit going into their bodies, and that's only if the spirits weren't maliciously evil to begin with.

It made Damon wonder. What on earth caused so many evil spirits? Is it possible they spawned out of hell or something? Graham heard that one. *I do not believe so.*

But the other man was gone, and Damon was glad for that. He continued on to his destination. No more...creatures appeared. It didn't feel right to call them people, when they acted so much like zombies.
*That's not a fair assessment. They aren't that different from us. Just less adjusted.*

It took another quarter hour, but he finally reached the door. Taking one last look around, he knelt down by the first door. Damon pulled a chain necklace from under his collar, selected a key on it, and unlocked the door. Once inside, he closed and locked the door again. He turned to the next door, a keypad presented off to the side. This door unlocked with a muffled thud, opening up to a hallway. On the left, a long line of windows revealed a large room with rows of disused growing space. Taking a quick glance left, he walked down to the staircase. Two flights, halfway down to the security office. This door required an ID Card, which Damon had snagged off an employee many years ago.

Like many government buildings, this one has solar panels on the roof. Unfortunately, the panels can only sustain one level of crop growth. Damon chose the third of four floors, and originally set it up with both his siblings. Now it was only him. Inside, he turned on the computer. No internet, but it was still connected to the internal and external cameras. The ones that still worked, that is. Satisfied there was no debris on the roofs and nobody, insane or otherwise loitering around, he exited the office. It automatically locked behind him. He strolled along the rows of peppers, berries, tomatoes, and a few others. He opened a few boxes, placed all the ripe fruit he could find inside, and closed it up.

Damon checked the front door to the hydroponics plant. It was still boarded up and blocked by heavy metal crates. He didn't want to be selfish, but he did not want ANYONE else to know about this place. It was essentially the Polemavre family secret for this apocalyptic world. He finished the tour making sure the facility was still running properly. It was. He doubted it would kill him if it wasn't, but it would be a serious shakeup. Damon grinned. It was a perfect visit.

Half an hour later, he was back inside the yellowish Monticello ripoff. He returned the rifle to the rack above the fireplace and snacked on one of the strawberries. The city might suck, but all things considered, life was good.
