Maybe because it's classic.

Episode 1 is also the only episode where he swears haha!

not saying that's why it's better, but yeah, I agree with Next Gen Mario

It has alot of replay value and puns to it. The Sonic and Link jokes are timeless.

lol, yeah.
but it is not only the first episode.

i think the whole fist season is "good" ...
without all that evil!
without all the problems during the story!
without brock! :)
and with lots of fun :)
(i like the mailbox scene at the beginning of the season 1 episodes)

Maybe someday Richie will remake the episode with more appropriateness and maybe some new twist that makes the remake either a joke, or something along the lines of a recap special (did this make sense)?

Everybody is saying its classic (it's true though. im not denying it). The mailbox scenes were hilarious!! Mario and Luigi should go back there and check their mail. Imagine how pissed off Bowser is going 2 b at this point in time (remember he still wants Mario and Luigi back).

Brock is hilarious though. I disagree with u there.

It would be cool if Richard, Chris, and Matt could redo the first episode with their updated camera and other technological improvements. They could mimick their words and actions exactly the same.

You know all the episodes of SMB just are like that worth watching more than once :) Episode 1 is the most viewed Richalvarez video for a reason. It has more then double the views as Richalvarez has subscribers if that tells you anything.

I like the reverse twist on the idea of “escaping from reality”.
Given that many people use video games as a form of escapism, it would kind of make sense that video game characters would want to do the opposite. Video game characters go on vacation to escape from their virtual reality in a “turned on its head” comedy.

Mario wants to “escape from The Mushroom Kingdom” to live in the “The Real World”.
Could this be an allegory for him wanting to grow up?

My interpretation:
Mario wants to escape from the fantasy realm of childhood (represented by “The Mushroom Kingdom”) into reality of adulthood (represented by “The Real World”).

Mario’s character seems to have difficulty crossing the threshold into adulthood. Is he projecting his childhood fantasies onto other people by seeing them as video game characters? I believe he idealises his girlfriend by viewing her as a “Princess” in his mind’s eye. He puts her on a pedestal, but at the same time complains that he has to “rescue” her. I believe his adult and childhood minds are in conflict: Mario uses adult language, yet can’t seem to shake off his boyhood, dress up identity.

He wants Peach to put more effort into the relationship as he feels it is too one sided. I think he is tired of playing the traditional male plumber/handyman archetype and wants his girlfriend to be more proactive. He wants her to be less old fashioned and passive. His girlfriend seems reluctant to give up her girlhood traditional fairy-tale role: she wears her tiara and dress for most of the series.

Mario discovers that many of his friends haven’t completely abandoned their childhood fantasies either. He calls his best friend/housemate “Luigi” and they play console games together to relive their youth.

Mario’s rival, Wario wants to drag him back into the childhood make believe world of “The Mushroom Kingdom”. I believe that Wario (who’s portrayed as an immature, impulsive character) doesn’t want the Mario Bros. to become adults.

I believe that Mario is portrayed as a sort of “Puer Aeternus”, Peter Pan, “boy who never grew up” figure in the series. Given the numerous Michael Jackson and Emperor Kuzco references in the SMB/Spinoffs, I can’t help but wonder whether or not “The Mushroom Kingdom” is supposed to be a metaphor for “Neverland”.

Or maybe I'm taking the whole thing too seriously?
I haven't laughed so much for a long time.
