Please comment and critique! I am a self-taught artist and really appreciate both positive and constructive feedback.

So I was struck by this idea of drawing a noir scene. I love the 1940's genre of film known as "noir" and it inspires much of my art. So I cast the Richalvarez crew into the roles of the stereotypical noir characters and drew a picture. It took nearly a month to complete and was a PAIN to draw but well worth it. AND I have a time-lapse video of my drawing it! Enjoy!

Image
"Down Darkened Streets"

Time-lapse from November 25 - December 19, 2010.

Image
Julian is the detective.

Image
Chris is the one nobody suspects.

Image
Richie's the gangster and Tim is the rat.

Image
Matt is the cop. But is he a dirty cop?

Image
"Playing With Fire - Doug"
I know it's not very good. Maybe if you squint... or tilt your head... or close your eyes and use your imagination...

Image
"Julian"
He's very fun to draw. Very easy to draw too.

Image
"Don't Ruin My Dreams, Richie"

Image
"Ima Tree?"

Image
"Norman"
Yup. Norman Bates (Anthony Perkins) from "Psycho." One of my favorite movies of all time.

Image
"Playing With Fire - Richie"
Third installment in the series. I'm still not happy with this drawing of Richie but it's definitely better than my last attempt. And all the attempts in between were unpublishable. -.-

-----------------------------------
Image
"Playing With Fire - Chris"
This is my second drawing in this series and hopefully not the last. Each of these drawings take days for me to complete, but recently I've been under a lot of stress and drawing faces is how I relax so...

Image
"Playing With Fire - Matt"
First in this series. I may redo this one later with more shading. I'll be drawing and posting more of this series.

Image
"Richie and Chris"
My first drawing of the SMB cast. Good but not as good as it could be. I'll do better next time.

Image
"Cagney"
This is one of the most recent "face" drawings I've done aside from the SMB cast. It took me days to complete. It's a drawing of actor and dancer from the 30s, James Cagney.

Image
"Friday"
One of my older face drawings from while I was still pretty new at it. This is Jack Webb, an actor most famous for his role as Joe Friday from the show Dragnet.

Image
"Bogie"
That's supposed to be Humphrey Bogart, another famous actor this time from the 40s. This is one of my very first face drawings. I've done better sketches of Bogart since.

Image
"Drifting Dreaming"
This old picture was one of the first times I turned a spontaneous sketch into an aesthetically pleasing drawing. It turned out pretty surreal.

Image
"Reflecting Escher"
Another old surreal drawing, this time inspired by M. C. Escher. Yes, I'm quite a fan of surreality.

Image
"Exile"
A drawing of a building from the computer game Myst III: Exile. Working off of the cover of the box of the game, this was one of my first experiments in recreating images I was looking at. I used a blocking technique that I quickly ditched.

Image
"Perspective"
Again, a really old sketch. But it was a notable attempt.
"Can you bind the cluster of the Pleiades, or loose the belt of Orion?... Do you know the ordinances of the heavens? Can you set their dominion over the earth?" - Job 38:31, 33

Image
"Old vs New"
It was a new pokémon at the time... Anyway, this drawing won a local contest set up by some neighbor kids. Whoop-dee-doo.

Image
"Lion"
A recent acrylic painting of mine. This is one has a good deal of personal and spiritual significance to me.

Image
"Windows Into Heaven"
Another acrylic painting. Sorry about it being sectioned into obvious squares. I had to scan it in in sections and I, well, did it wrong.

Okay, so please, please, please tell me what you think.

Oops. Thanks Jade and Trys. ^_^

Thanks for all the positive comments, people. I really appreciate criticisms too. My art is all self-taught, no books or classes, so if you have constructive criticisms it helps.

Lol. I've had several people say that and others say the opposite. I guess it's how you look at it. Now if I could just master it so no matter how you look at it... :D

Rich's head is the best, but Chris's is too big. narrow it down some next time. other than that, it's great!

Thank you everybody for the compliments and comments! I'm beginning to think I'll try another one.

HFML, I appreciate the compliment immensely, I really do. I would appreciate it more if it was worded more politely. :)

I love drawing faces and I wouldn't mind suggestions from people as to who I should try to draw next. Any ideas? :D

Try Drawing us again, i thought your first one was cool. Try less lines on my face, and make Chris' face slimmer. And after your done with that, you can try it again with the Mario hats on lol.
